Guro Haugli is a Norwegian conductor who currently holds the position as assistant conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. She regularly assists the SSO with their chief conductor Andris Poga, as well as guest conductors. Haugli was a member of the Norwegian Conductor’s program Dirigentforum from 2018-2022. During Bergen International Festival in 2021, she conducted at the concert Let’s Play with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert resulted in a music-documentary featuring her portrait, which aired on the Norwegian national broadcasting channel NRK Hovedscenen.
Haugli has performed and conducted orchestras such as the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Südwestdeutsche Filharmoni Konstanz, Budafok Dohnanyi Orchestra, Insimul Sinfonietta and Järvi Academy Sinfonietta. She has also performed with several of the Norwegian military bands, most recently the Norwegian Army Band in Harstad in May 2024.
In the summer of 2024, she participated at the Järvi Conducting Academy, studying with Neeme, Paavo and Kristjan Järvi, and Leonid Grin. During her time in Dirigentforum, she has participated in masterclasses with renowned conductors including Ed Gardner, Johannes Schlaefli, Mark Stringer, Nicolás Pasquet, Sascha Goetzel, Anna Maria Helsing and Eivind Gullberg Jensen.
Haugli is educated at the University of Stavanger and Musikene, San Sebastián. She studied with Bjarte Engeset, Peter Szilvay, Morten Wensberg, Trond Korsgård and Arturo Tamayo. Her master studies included a project diving into romantic performance practice focusing on Willem Mengelberg’s interpretation of Mahler 4th symphony recorded with the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Alongside her conducting career, Guro has a great passion for conducting education and has been the co-ordinator for Conductor’s Week, Norway’s largest conducting course, from 2018 until August 2024. At Conductor’s Week, she has also been involved as a teacher during the introductory course, in addition to leading technique sessions. During her studies, she served as Teacher in Ensemble Leadership at the Faculty of Performing Arts at the University of Stavanger.
